If you want to know what to do in Mallorca in October, it is important to know that this is the month of fairs and gastronomic markets dedicated, for the most part, to local produce. But it’s not all beaches, fairs and markets. We invite you to discover a more intimate Mallorca.
October is the ideal month to visit Mallorca. After the hot Mallorcan summer of crowded beaches, busy streets and nightly parties, temperatures mellow down and give way to a pleasant autumn with mild temperatures of around 25ºC. The sea is still warm and invites us to take long walks on the beach or go for a dip during the middle of the day. Excursions in Mallorca
Serra de Tramuntana
The Serra de Tramuntana is the north-western coastal mountain range of Mallorca. It is a unique landscape that dazzled the Empress Sissy herself. Some of the landscapes of the Serra de Tramuntana have been protected for their ecological value, such as the islet of Sa Dragonera, the Torrent de Pareis and the Fonts Ufanes, which have been declared natural monuments.
To find out more about the possible excursions in Mallorca and the Serra de Tramuntana, it is advisable to explore its countless paths linked to the Pedra en Sec route, a long-distance footpath (GR-221). This route links the old paths between the different farming villages that produce raw materials such as oranges and carob beans. If you would like to know more about the different routes and excursions in the Serra de Tramuntana, we recommend you visit the Serra de Tramuntana World Heritage Consortium website.
One of the most endearing family trips in Mallorca is from Palma to Sóller on a wooden train inaugurated in 1912 and one of the island’s most popular excursions in Mallorca. In spite of the years, the Sóller train has retained the same appearance since its inauguration. The Sóller train departs from Plaça Espanya in Palma and ends in the municipality of Sóller. The journey lasts one hour. As soon as you cross the threshold of the station you will feel transported back in time. Along the route you will pass through 13 tunnels, bridges and a viaduct.
Finally, the train arrives in Sóller and a tram, also made of wood, links the town with the Port of Sóller. The Port of Sóller is one of the main ports in Mallorca, whose history is linked to the citrus fruit trade and emigration in the last century.
The Malgrats Islands
The Illes Malgrats are located in front of the bay of Santa Ponsa, they have a high fishing and ecological value due to their variety of habitats. The Malgrats Islands are protected as a marine reserve. The excursion in Majorca to the Malgrats Islands is only accessible by boat around which you can snorkel. Around the Bay of Santa Ponsa there are three viewpoints from where you can take beautiful photos of the islands: the viewpoint of Canó and the viewpoint of the Malgrats, located one at each end of the bay, and the viewpoint of Cala Inés.
Where to watch the sunset in Mallorca
There is nothing more magical than watching a sunset at the end of the day. And if the sunset is by the sea and with good company, it becomes an unforgettable experience. In October the sunset takes on intense colours, between yellow and orange, which makes for a beautiful sunset.
If you are looking for where to see the sunset in Mallorca, bear in mind that, being an island, it allows us to see a great variety of sunsets from different points of the Mallorcan territory depending on the astronomical phenomenon we wish to contemplate. We recommend three magical places to watch the sunset:
They say that the sunset at the Sa Foradada viewpoint is the most spectacular on the island. It is the perfect place for lovers of nature, peace and quiet and the ideal place to watch the sunset in Mallorca. Given its popularity, we recommend that you make this visit during the month of October to avoid the crowds. To get down to the rocky beach you have to walk for about 45 minutes, once you leave your car in the car park, along a pleasant path of singular orography. It is advisable to wear suitable footwear and enjoy the excursion!
The hamlet of San Telmo is located at the westernmost point of Mallorca and faces west. Perfect for watching the sunsets in October. The beach of San Telmo has spectacular views of Sa Dragonera. Sa Dragonera is the Natural Park that symbolises the values of Mallorcan culture such as sustainability and ecology. Sa Dragonera was protected with the classification of Natural Park thanks to popular pressure in the attempt to urbanize the island in the 70’s. You can’t miss it!
Santa Ponsa Beach
Perhaps after a day full of experiences on the island you would like to sit by the sea with a glass of Mallorcan wine in one of the many restaurants and watch the sunset in Mallorca. In this case we recommend Santa Ponsa beach, from where you can watch a beautiful sunset with reddish autumn colours in front of the sea. It is undoubtedly the perfect thing to do in Majorca in October.
