Sóller, a historic village
Sóller, earth with the smell of orange blossom and orange. Its oranges flood the town and are famous, not only in Mallorca, but in much of the world. And it is because this town of friendly people captivates you from the first moment you set foot in it. A natural treasure, which in the past was highly coveted by privateers who sailed the Mediterranean.
This village, located in a valley in the middle of the mountains, is one of the favorite destinations for visitors from all over the world, and a must if you travel to Mallorca. Sóller is the leisure and cultural centre of the Serra de Tramuntana, and an ideal place for hiking and cycling lovers, thanks to the large number of routes leaving from the village. Its narrow streets and unique houses bring tradition. In addition, the train station brings a magical touch to this town, which seems to be taken from a fairy tale.
In addition to the village, in Sóller you can enjoy a wonderful port, with two beautiful beaches and a promenade, ideal to enjoy the sunrise or sunset. From the Santa Catalina viewpoint you can enjoy the best views of all of Sóller, with a spectacular panoramic view over the port.
Sóller’s train and tramway
Without a doubt, the best way to get to Sóller, and once there, to enjoy the beauty of the town and the port is to take the train and tram. The Sóller train joins the towns of Palma and Sóller, passing through the small town of Bunyola. Six trips during the day to take visitors from one place to another, which are reduced to four during the winter. You can consult here the schedules.
The price of the train for visitors is 25€. The exit is from Plaza de España, in the centre of Palma de Mallorca, next to the intermodal bus station.
Once you have arrived in Sóller, we advise you to take the tram to know the secrets hidden in this magical place. You will depart from the village of Sóller and arrive at the port. An excursion through an electric tram that moves at low speed, which makes you enjoy the natural environment and the large amount of native fauna and flora.
The price of the electric tram is 7€. And there are 10 to 11 outings throughout the day for visitors. You can also buy a train and tram combination for 32€.

Moors and Christians Festival
The well-known Firó de Sóller is not only the most important festival in Sóller, but also one of the most famous and celebrated by all Mallorcans. These are the celebrations that take place on the second weekend of May and that come to celebrate the victory of the inhabitants of Sóller against the Saracen invasion on May 11,1561. The festival lasts four days and ends on Monday with the recreation of the battle. A battle that begins in the Port, when the Saracens disembark in Sóller and ends in the village, where after three battles, the sollerics expel the Saracen pirates. The inhabitants of the village recreate the battle dressed in the typical costumes of Saracens and the inhabitants of Sóller at that time.
During these four days there are numerous cultural and sporting events, beginning with a proclamation and the investiture of “Valentes Dones”, which embody historical figures who defended the people against the Saracen attack.
In addition to the Firó, the previous day the Fira is held, where the local and typical products of the valley are exhibited along a market. You can also find an agricultural fair with native animals.
Serra de Tramuntana, the best surroundings
Sóller is located at the foot of the Tramuntana mountain range, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, thanks to its singular beauty and the great amount of fauna and flora that inhabit its mountains. A cultural landscape formed by paths, walls and traditional stone constructions. A footprint perfectly integrated with nature.
In addition to its heritage, the Tramuntana mountain range smells of culture on all four sides. Illustrious people from Mallorca’s history have spent time in this area of the island. Among them, King Jaume I, the writer Ramón Llull, Archduke Luis Salvador and the famous couple formed by musician Frédéric Chopin and writer George Sand, who settled in the Cartuja de Valldemossa.
